Options
Optical LANs are characterized by
high-quality links, low latency, and the freedom to choose the
topology. This permits extremely high-quality transparent circuits
which might be used for analog signal distribution or Internet
access.
Store-and-forward
optical packet/cell switching architectures are also possible, but
suffer from the same limitations discussed under MANs.
